Construcdead is a Swedish melodic death and thrash metal band from Stockholm that was founded in 1999.

history

The band was founded in May 1999 and consisted of the drummer Erik Thyselius ( Terror 2000 ) and the guitarists Rickard Dahlberg and Christian Ericson, all three of whom had previously worked for the band Arize. Joakim "Harju" Hedestedt, who previously played with Face Down , joined the band as bass player . Henrik Svegsjö initially worked as a singer, before being replaced by Jonas Sandberg a short time later. The name was inspired by the DAD song Reconstrucdead . In December 1999 a first demo called The New Constitution was released , followed by another in March 2000 under the name Turn . Peter Wichers from Soilwork was a guest musician at this demo . This was followed by appearances, including at the Stonehenge Festival in the Netherlands . After another demo was released under the name As Time Bleeds , the band played in July 2001 at the Nuclear Storm Festival in the Czech Republic . After a fourth demo, the band signed a contract with Cold Records , which in 2002 released the debut album Repent . Then Magnus Soderman was included as a guest musician. The Japanese version of the album was released by Teichiku Records and included the song Metamorphosia as a bonus . After the release, the band went on tour through Japan as the opening act for Soilwork, playing a total of three concerts in Osaka , Nagoya and Tokyo . In September 2002 the band separated from the singer Jonas Sandberg and was replaced by Daniel Regefelt. Regefelt only stayed a few weeks and was again replaced by Peter Tuthill. Dalberg had asked his father for a suitable singer. He knew Tony Jelencovich, a member of the Transport League , who suggested Tuthill. In January 2004, Black Lodge Records released the second album Viladead , which was recorded in Helsingborg by Queenstreet Recording with producer Richard Larsson . Björn "Speed" Strid and Henry Ranta again featured two Soilwork members on the album. After that, Joakim Hedestedt and Erik Thyselius decided to re-found the band Face Down. Johan Magnusson, who had previously played the guitar in Carnal Forge , joined the band as bassist . Then the band went to Fear and Loathing Studios in late October to record the EP Wounded . On April 1, 2005 the band recorded a concert in Stockholm for a DVD, for which Carhlie Granberg was the director. In May the singer left Peter Tuthill and was replaced by Jens Broman. In addition, the bassist Johan Magnusson left the line-up and was replaced by Viktor Hemgren. The band then took the album The Grand Machinery , which was released that same year. The group made their first appearance on July 7th at the Sundsvall Gatufestival in Sundsvall . The band then went on tour in Scandinavia , Great Britain and Europe in October . Soilwork and Hatesphere also took part in the European tour . The three bands also performed in Salzburg , with the Austrian band Misbegotten also taking part in this concert . The Grand Machinery was released in February 2006 via Teichiku Records in Japan and contained three bonus songs. In December the band went to the Cosmos studio with producer Jocke Skog to make new recordings. In 2007 bassist Hemgren and drummer Thyselius left the band and were replaced by drummer Niklas Karlsson and bassist Thomas Fällgren. In 2009 the album Endless Echo was released on Black Lodge Records. The recordings for this took place in the Not Quite Studio with producers Klas Ideberg and Peter Wildoer from Darkane . In the same year the band also took part in the Sthlm Thrashfest in Stockholm. After the recording, the drummer Karlsson left the band and was replaced by face-down drummer Chris Barkensjö. In April 2010, the band split from founding member and guitarist Christian Ericson.

style

According to laut.de , the band on Repent was very similar to At the Gates . Violadead offers a mixture of Melodic Death Metal, Thrash Metal and Nu Metal . According to Daniel Ekeroth in his book Swedish Death Metal , the band uses all types of brutal metal , but especially old-school thrash metal. Janne Stark saw it similarly in his book The Heaviest Encyclopedia of Swedish Hard Rock and Heavy Metal Ever! , who described the music as Thrash Metal, based on the style of bands from the San Francisco Bay Area . According to Gunnar Sauermann from Metal Hammer , the band plays Melodic Death Metal on Repent , which is reminiscent of Soilwork. The song's aggressiveness brings back memories of groups like Darkane and The Forsaken . The speed of the songs is usually very high and only occasionally falls back into the mid-tempo range. Metal Hammer's Anzo Sadoni described in his review of Violadead that the band plays a modern mix of death and thrash metal. The demanding singing alternates between clear singing and screaming. Sadoni recommended the album to fans of In Flames , The Haunted , Killswitch Engage , Shadows Fall and Soilwork. In his review of Endless Echo , Sadoni wrote that the band doesn't play Death Thrash Metal like bands like Hatesphere, Carnal Forge and Defleshed , because the Death Metal part is more melodic. The band offers a modern mix of Soilwork, Fear Factory , In Flames and Strapping Young Lad . The singing is very variable.
