Coumaphos is a chemical compound from the group of thiophosphoric acid esters and organic chlorine compounds .
Extraction and presentation
Coumaphos can be obtained by reacting diethyl chlorothiophosphate with 3-chloro-4-methyl-7-hydroxy-coumarin .
properties
Coumaphos is a solid that is practically insoluble in water. It is stable in water and in moderate heat, but hydrolyzes in alkaline conditions.
use
Coumaphos is an insecticide used to control a wide variety of insects in animal production, including maggots, snailworms, lice, scabies , the varroa mite , flies, and ticks. It works against ectoparasites that live on animals such as sheep, goats, horses, pigs, poultry and bees. The application takes place both externally and internally. Coumaphos serves as a selective insecticide, while at the same time protecting other organisms, it kills certain insect species. It acts as a cholinesterase inhibitor and is metabolized to chlorferon in animals .
Under the trade name Perizin , Coumaphos is used in beekeeping against the Varroa mite.
In the EU states such as Germany and Austria as well as in Switzerland, no pesticides are permitted that contain Coumaphos as an active ingredient.
