Courageous (Original title: Courageous ) is a Christian drama from 2011 , directed by Alex Kendrick .

background

Alex Kendrick is a pastor in Georgia. After hearing that the portrayal in films has more impact on the general public than a sermon in church, he and his brother Stephen decided to make films themselves. Courageous is the fourth film directed by Kendrick and was filmed in Albany, Georgia in 2010 . For example, Kendrick had previously turned Facing the Giants or Fireproof - Don't give up on your partner . The brothers wrote the script for Courageous together, Stephen also acted as producer, while Alex played one of the main roles in the film. Some of the contributors (Sherwood Baptist Church volunteers) volunteered for the production, which was created at Sherwood Pictures .

Before filming began, the filmmakers at Sherwood Pictures got together for a prayer. They had done the same with the previous movies that Kendrick had produced with this company in 2006 and 2008. Although these Christian-themed films do not come close to Hollywood production standards, they are still some of the most profitable films in the genre. The film was marketed by Sony Provident Films. In total, he made $ 34.5 million.

action

Adam Mitchell, the main character in the film, has a wife and two children. His daughter is killed in a car accident and the family has to learn to deal with it. Adam believes he was not a good father to her and decides to make a promise to his son that he will be his "best father". When he tells his friends about this plan, they also want to sign the contract. At the end of the film, he gives a speech to the church in which he says the importance of being a good father.

Nathan Hayes' daughter is almost kidnapped in a car theft at the beginning of the film. Hayes manages to save her. His eldest daughter, who brings home a friend who is a member of a dangerous gang, causes him further problems. The daughter's boyfriend is later arrested and Hayes visits him in prison to read the Bible with him.

Shane Fuller is divorced and has one son. He too has the feeling that he spends too little time with him, and he has also suppressed drug finds from raids and illegally sold what he is imprisoned for. In prison he regrets what he did and Adam Mitchell, who visits him there, forgives him for his wrongdoing.

David Thomson is the youngest of the group. He's a young cop. He has an illegitimate child from college for whom he does not want to take responsibility. After a conversation with Nathan Hayes, he finally realizes that this was a mistake and tries to get in touch with the little girl.

Javier Martinez is the only one of the friends who doesn't work for the police. The fact that he cannot find a real job puts a strain on his wife and the whole family. By chance (represented in the film by God's will) he can build a garden house for Mitchell. He helps him get a permanent job at a textile company and Martinez even rose to become warehouse manager.
