Catherine complains that her mother recently had a major stroke and is in dire need of a hospital bed and wheelchair. When Catherine wants a divorce from her husband, Caleb agrees because he does not feel valued by Catherine.

While preparing for the divorce, Caleb's father asks him to reconsider the matter. After all, he and Caleb's mother could have solved their problems with God's help back then. Caleb agrees to postpone the divorce for 40 days and save his marriage with the help of a book written by his father. Have Caleb read a page each day and follow the advice. He starts making coffee, helping around the house and buying gifts for his wife. When she told her colleagues about her husband's strange behavior, they persuaded her that this was a scam to get everything in the divorce. Catherine confronts her husband and wants the divorce all the sooner. She also begins to flirt with the chief doctor Gavin Keller, because he listens to her and is open to her problems. Meanwhile, Caleb begins to understand himself better.

After another conversation with his father, Caleb also begins to deal with God. When he learns from his colleague that he has also been through a divorce, he begins to work seriously on himself and his marriage. He begins to be interested in Catherine's problems. He realizes his addiction to porn and smashes his computer in front of the neighbors. He begins to pray and change. Catherine, meanwhile, has initiated the divorce. When Caleb learned of her flirtation with Dr. Keller finds out that he storms into the hospital and makes a scene. Several colleagues notice this and also get a different picture of Caleb.

Catherine finds out someone paid for her mother's sick bed and believes this is Dr. Basement was. Meanwhile, Caleb begins to despair, but still does not give up. When Catherine falls ill and he takes care of her, she reveals to him that she found the book. When asked which of the 40 days he was on, he replied 43. He didn't want to give up even after the 40 days. Caleb asks her if she doesn't believe in their marriage after all. Catherine asks him to think it over. When she later goes to the medical supply store to get some things for her mother, she learns that it is not Dr. Keller, but Caleb paid for the bed. Catherine realizes the sacrifice he has made because this money was originally intended for his boat. Catherine realizes that Caleb has really changed and goes to see him at his fire station. There she asks him to share what happened to him with her too.

The two then renew their vows in front of all their friends and relatives as a covenant with God.
