Cristian Roldan (born June 3, 1995 in Artesia , California ) is an American football player who is mostly used as a midfielder . He is currently under contract with the Seattle Sounders .

Career

Youth and amateur football

Roldan went to the University of Washington after graduating from high school . During his time there, he played for his university's soccer team, the Washington Huskies. He also played at the same time in the Premier Development League for Washington Crossfire . For Crossfire he scored six goals in 13 games.

Club career

On January 8, 2015, it was announced that Roldan is leaving college early and has signed a Generation Adidas contract with Major League Soccer . On January 15, Roldan was selected by the Seattle Sounders as the 16th pick in the first round of the 2015 MLS SuperDraft . In the first two games of the season against New England Revolution and the San José Earthquakes , he was substituted on for a few minutes each and so came to his first minutes in the MLS . He then played for the Seattle Sounders 2 farm team in the USL and scored his first goal of his professional career in the first game. Due to several injuries in the Seattle Sounders first team, the loan was terminated prematurely and Roldan made his starting eleven debut in the MLS the following week, in the goalless duel against FC Dallas . He scored his first Major League Soccer goal on July 14, 2016. In the game against FC Dallas, he scored the 5-0 final score.

National team

Because of his origins, Cristian Roldan would be eligible to play for the national teams of El Salvador , Guatemala and the United States . For the USA U-20 selection , he was twice on the field in 2015. In an interview with the American TV broadcaster Univision Deportes in July 2016, he announced that he would play for one of the three national teams in the future. So far, however, he had declined invitations from El Salvador and Guatemala because he wanted to concentrate primarily on football with the Sounders.
