Marton Paul Csokas ( Hungarian. / ʧoːkɒːʃ /, born June 30, 1966 in Invercargill , Southland ) is a New Zealand actor .

biography

His father, Márton Csókás senior, was born in Hungary and emigrated to New Zealand after the Second World War . His mother was born in New Zealand with Irish , English and Danish roots. After completing his training at the New Zealand Drama School in 1989 and a few theater appearances, he took on the role of Dennis in The High Flyer in 1994 , on which Peter Jackson co-wrote. He then played two years in the New Zealand soap opera Shortland Street before he in 1996 Broken English to Darko mimed. In between he worked at the theater , acted, wrote and staged plays.

In Europe , it was mainly his countless guest appearances in fantasy series such as Xena , Herkules or Beastmaster that made him famous. Csokas also played in various New Zealand and Australian film productions such as Hurray (1998) and The Monkey's Mask (2000). There he also played in 2001 in the miniseries The Farm . In Europe, apart from his appearances as Celeborn in the Lord of the Rings parts The Companions and in The Return of the King, only a few of his roles were known ( xXx - Triple X , Kangaroo Jack , The Bourne Conspiracy ).

In 2004 he directed the film Evilenko , directed by the Italian journalist and director David Grieco , in which he played the second leading role, the Russian investigator Vadim Lesiev , on the hunt for a serial killer. This was modeled after a real murderer, Andrei Tschikatilo , and played by Malcolm McDowell (known from A Clockwork Orange ). After its presentation at the Fantasy Filmfest, the film did not come to German cinemas and has been available on DVD since 2007.

In 2005 he appeared in the films Æon Flux , The Great Raid and Ridley Scott's Kingdom of Heaven . In 2014 he took on various roles in the films Noah , The Amazing Spider-Man 2: Rise of Electro and Sin City 2: A Dame to Kill For . Csokas starred in the action thriller The Equalizer , which started in October 2014 .

In 2005, Csokas began a three-year long-distance relationship with French actress Eva Green , whom he met on the set for Kingdom of Heaven . In 2008 he moved to London to live with Green. In 2009 the couple separated. Csokas currently lives in Venice , Los Angeles .
