Curtis Murphy (born December 3, 1975 in Kerrobert , Saskatchewan ) is a Canadian ice hockey player on the position of defender , who was last under contract at EHC Linz in the Austrian ice hockey league between 2011 and 2015 .
Career
Murphy began his career in the 1993/94 season with the Nipawin Hawks in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League . For the 1994/95 season, the defender moved to the University of North Dakota in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association , a division of the National Collegiate Athletic Association . With the team he won the national college championship in 1997 .
After four years, Murphy moved undrafted to the professional field to the Orlando Solar Bears in the International Hockey League . In the 2000/01 season he won the Turner Cup with the Bears as the last team, as the league was dissolved after the end of this season and merged with the American Hockey League . At the same time, the Solar Bears were also dissolved. From 2001 to 2003 he played on the Minnesota Wild's farm team , the Houston Eros . During this time Curtis Murphy also completed an NHL game and won the Calder Cup with the Eros. For the 2003/04 season , the Canadian was given in exchange for Chris Bala from the Minnesota Wild to the Nashville Predators , which he moved to the Milwaukee Admirals within the AHL . With the Admirals he again won the Calder Cup and also received the Eddie Shore Award for best defender in the league for the second time in a row.
Since his contract expired after only one year, Murphy moved to Lokomotive Yaroslavl in the Russian Super League in summer 2004 . But even with Lokomotive Yaroslavl he only stayed one season. In the summer of 2005, Murphy returned to the Houston Eros. After two years Murphy continued his career in the Swiss National League A with the SCL Tigers . At the end of June 2011, the Canadian received a contract with EHC Linz from the Austrian ice hockey league , for which he played until 2015.
