The Dörnthaler Teich (in the 19th century also Gläserteich ) is a water management system of the Freiberg Revierwasserlaufanstalt . It is located south of Dörnthal , a district of the city of Olbernhau in the Erzgebirge district in Saxony .
description
The artificial pond was originally created between 1787 and 1790 for Freiberg mining and is now used to supply drinking water to Freiberg , Chemnitz and Dresden as well as flood protection. The dammed waters are the Haselbach and the artificial moat with its two florets from the Dittmannsdorfer pond . According to the purpose of its creation, the reservoir is connected to other systems of the Revierwasserlaufanstalt via artificial ditches. For example with the Dörnthaler Kunstgraben which transfers water to the Obersaidaer Kunstgraben at the Obersaidaer Teich and from there on to Freiberg.
Of these systems, the Dörnthaler Teich has the highest barrier structure. This is an earth embankment dam with a clay core with a tarras wall on the water side .
There are no recreational opportunities at the reservoir, apart from hiking.
