His older brother Dajour (* 1996) is also a soccer player and made his debut as such in 2015 on the Montserrat national soccer team .

Club career

Via Arsenal and Fulham to the Manchester United youth team

Darren Raekwon McIntosh-Buffonge was born on November 7, 1998 in London and played in the youth division of Arsenal FC as a child . In 2010 he moved within the city to the youth team of Fulham FC . At Fulham he then went through various junior league classes and moved with his club in the FA Youth Cup 2013/14 up to the final against the youth of Chelsea . After a 3-2 win in the first leg, Buffonge lost with Fulham, however, the second leg with 3-5, whereupon Chelsea won the tournament. Subsequently, he was part of Fulham's U-16 squad, which gave him the chance to prove himself for the U-18 team. On January 21, 2015, Buffonge, who was just over 16 years old at the time, was sitting unused on the bench in a league game for the club's U-21 team; however, he was unable to work for the U-21s. After five league appearances in the 2013/14 season, he was used in 15 championship games in the following season and was also active in the 2014/15 FA Youth Cup .

In November 2015, after a successful trial session, he moved to the Manchester United Academy . His move should actually have taken place in the summer of this year; Due to a groin injury and the associated injury-related absence of several months, a transfer came about several months later. From the 2016/17 season at the latest, Buffonge had made his breakthrough in the Manchester United U-18 team, having scored seven goals and six assists in 17 league appearances this season. At the end of the regular season, the team was nine points behind local rivals Manchester City in second place in the North Division and qualified for the championship-winning second section of the season. Here, the 1.78 m tall midfielder and his team came fourth in Group 1 and was used by coach Kieran McKenna in four of his team's seven games . Early in this season he made the leap to the club's U-23 team in September 2016, with Buffonge, who can be used in various midfield positions, making his debut on September 9, 2016 in a 2-2 draw against the Manchester City reserves when he came on the lawn in the 70th minute of play for Charlie Scott . Then he made it to another five league appearances in the U-23 squad in the following year, which brought it in the Premier League 2 to sixth place in the final standings.

Reserve player at ManU and move to Italy

In the following season 2017/18 Buffonge was also a member of the reserve team, but again only very rarely did it beyond short stakes. In 14 of 22 league games that had been possible, the midfielder had a record of one hit and two assists. In the final standings, he ranked with the reserves of Manchester United in last place in Division 1 , which meant a relegation to the next lower Division 2 . In this very same season, Buffonge was able to show long appearances, especially at the beginning of the 2018/19 season, and was well on the way to becoming a regular player. After the game of the eleventh round he had already made ten appearances and three hits, but was subsequently no longer considered by his coach Ricky Sbragia . In the remaining eleven games until the end of the season, he only made one league appearance and was not part of the squad in the other ten games. In the final table, Manchester United's U-23 did not get past sixth place in Division 2 . In June 2019 Buffonge left Manchester United as one of several academy players without ever standing for the professional team. In the months leading up to his departure, he had completed trial training at Derby County and the Bolton Wanderers ; However, no contract was initiated.

On August 9, 2019, Buffonge's move to the Italian second division club Spezia Calcio was announced. With the Italians , he signed a one-year contract with the option of an additional year. The Englishman made his competitive debut for the black and whites from the northern Italian city of La Spezia on August 18, 2019, after having been on the bench without being used a week before, in the 1-0 defeat of his team against the Italian first division club US Sassuolo in the third round of the Coppa Italia 2019/20 , when he was sent onto the field by his coach Vincenzo Italiano in the 62nd minute of the game for the Dutchman Delano Burgzorg . Only a few days later he made his debut in a professional league in the first round match of Serie B 2019/20 in a 3-0 away win over AS Cittadella when he came on for Emmanuel Gyasi in the 72nd minute , again as a left winger . The majority of the rest of the season he sat unused on the substitute bench of the professionals and was used in a total of three championship games from there until his move to the Italian third division. He also played two league games for the club's Primavera team in November 2019 , with a brace on his first appearance, a 6-2 away win over the youth of Virtus Entella . He then came to two more Primavera missions at the end of January and switched to the Italian third division club US Pergolettese on January 31, 2020, on the last transfer day . After playing for the Spezia Calcio Primavera team a week earlier, Buffonge sat on the bench in a 2-2 home draw against Novara Calcio for the first time in an Italian third division game on February 2, 2020 , but did not come from this for use. In the following league game, a 1: 3 away defeat against Calcio Lecco on February 9, 2020, his coach, 66-year-old Fiorenzo Mario Albertini , replaced the veteran Cristian Agnelli from the 85th minute . Until the series C game operations were interrupted in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic in Italy , Buffonge had been sitting unused on the bench in two more championship games.

National team career

Due to his parentage, Buffonge is eligible to play for the national teams of Montserrat , Antigua and Barbuda , as well as England . In February 2017, the then 18-year-old received a call-up to the U-20 national team of Antigua and Barbuda and should have traveled with the team to Costa Rica for the 2017 CONCACAF U-20 championship as part of the 20-man squad . Since he received no clearance from his club, however, he was unable to participate in this tournament, in which Antigua and Barbuda were eliminated in the group stage; he was then replaced by Ajani Thomas from Swetes FC .
