The network DRESDEN-concept - Dresden Research and Education Synergies for the Development of Excellence and Novelty is an amalgamation of the Technical University of Dresden with non-university research institutions in Dresden . It is the only network in Germany in which a university and institutes from all four of the major German scientific societies ( Fraunhofer Society , Max Planck Society , Leibniz Association and Helmholtz Association ) and renowned cultural institutions coordinate their activities in the field of research and science have joined forces.

history

In January 2009, the TU Dresden, together with the Dresden institutes of the Max Planck Society , the Fraunhofer Society , the Leibniz Association and the Helmholtz Association , drafted a declaration of intent to create a joint Dresden research and university training facility. Consequently, it was in August 2010, the club DRESDEN-concept eV founded.

Goal setting

The aim of the DRESDEN-concept network is to “promote science and research, education and training for young scientists and engineers, and the exchange of scientific ideas at the Dresden science location.” In order to be able to realize this project, the partners develop a joint strategy concept for the science location Dresden. In addition, joint research and development projects, graduate schools and professorial appointments are to be funded , and courses of study and advanced training are to be developed.

DRESDEN-concept was a core element of the TU Dresden's application within the framework of the funding phase of the Excellence Initiative and the Excellence Strategy . The network and the cooperative collaboration are one of the reasons for the award of excellence to the TU Dresden.

Projects

Numerous projects have been created within the network that can be used by the partner institutions:

  • The Dresden Genome Center (DGC) is a campus-wide technology platform that enables access to the most modern genome analysis methods and procedures. The following four units, which are available to all researchers in the modern life sciences on the Dresden Campus, form the DGC: DNA sequencing / tilling, microarray analyzes, next generation sequencing and recombineering.
  • With the technology portal, a joint structure is being developed within the framework of the DRESDEN-concept, which allows devices and infrastructures to be used together more efficiently in order to strengthen research collaborations.
  • The Biopolis Dresden Imaging Platform (BioDIP) is a Dresden-wide network of light and electron microscopy locations on the Biopolis campus and offers open access to the most modern technologies in the field of imaging. At present, all scientists have access to over 50 light and electron microscopic systems in eight microscopy locations belonging to five research institutions.
  • In the Dresden Science Calendar, all scientific events in the Dresden area are made accessible at a glance in order to support collaboration across disciplines and institutes. In addition to the calendar display on the Dresden Science Calendar website, the internet platform also enables relevant lectures to be automatically pre-sorted based on unique search criteria and personal interests and regular structured notifications to be sent via RSS feed, iCal calendar subscription or other data channels. The Dresden Science Calendar complements the existing announcement systems of the individual institutes, from which the information is automatically synchronized. The Dresden Science Calendar is an activity within the DRESDEN-concept, in cooperation with the city of Dresden.
  • The task of Welcome @ DRESDEN-concept is to welcome international scientists and their families, to make their start in a foreign country easier and to make sure that they feel comfortable in Dresden. The local international offices, the Welcome Center at TU Dresden and (dual) career contacts provide support. The team of employees is available to advise on all questions relating to relocation, social and cultural integration and (dual) career services.
  • The Henry Arnhold Dresden Summer School is an interdisciplinary program for young scientists and museum professionals. As a joint project of the TU Dresden, the Deutsches Hygiene-Museum Dresden, the Military History Museum of the Bundeswehr, the Saxon State and University Library Dresden and the State Art Collections Dresden, the Dresden Summer School can fall back on a network of high-ranking partners. The aim is to discuss current questions of the self-image and the future direction of collection and exhibition institutions together with the experts from the participating institutions as well as with high-ranking speakers.
