DSV A / S is a transport and logistics company . Founded in 1976, DSV employs more than 47,000 people in more than 75 countries. DSV is listed in Nasdaq OMX Nordic and part of OMX Copenhagen 20 . DSV pursues an asset light business model : the actual transport operations are carried out by external service providers , while DSV itself does not own any ships or aircraft and only a limited number of trucks.

Company history

DSV was founded in 1976 by Leif Tullberg and nine independent freight forwarders under the full name “DSV, De Sammensluttede Vognmænd af 13-7 1976 A / S” (Danish for “The merged wagoners of July 13, 1976”). The company has been listed in the OMX Copenhagen 20 share index on the Copenhagen Stock Exchange since 1987 . Actually, the merger was only intended to act as a haulage company on behalf of the freight forwarders involved. This changed in 1989 when DSV expanded into the international market by purchasing two competing export companies - Borup Autotransport A / S and Hammerbro A / S.

From the late 1990s onwards, DSV began to steadily expand its market position through investments in other companies, but above all through the purchase of competitors. The acquisition of Samson Transport Co. A / S tripled the transport and logistics activities of DSV in 1997. A further quadrupling was generated by the acquisition of DFDS Dan Transport Group A / S in 2000, with which DSV established itself in the global market. In 2001, DSV introduced a division into three corporate divisions for land transport, air and sea freight as well as supply chain and warehouse logistics, whereby the transport activities continued to operate under the name DFDS Transport , which was used after the takeover of DFDS Dan Transport Group A / S. The main company kept its original name until it was officially shortened to "DSV A / S" in 2003.

In 2005 DSV integrated the Bremen logistics company JH Bachmann into its air and sea freight division. In the same year Leif Tullberg switched to the supervisory board. Kurt K. Larsen, who joined DSV in the course of the merger with Borup Auto Transport in 1989 and has since acted as CEO together with Tullberg , became the sole company director. With the acquisition of Koninklijke Frans Maas Groep NV in 2006, DSV became the third largest transport company with its own road transport network in Europe. In order to take account of the growth and to establish a logical connection with the main company, the name DFDS Transport was dropped in 2007 . Since then, the company's divisions have been DSV Road , DSV Air & Sea and DSV Solutions . In 2008, the head of the road transport division, Jens Bjørn Andersen, was appointed CEO, while Kurt K. Larsen took over the chairmanship of the supervisory board. DSV continues to strive to expand its business areas through acquisitions in order to build up a global logistics network. In 2015, the company moved its headquarters from Brøndby to Hedehusene, a few kilometers away.

In 2016, DSV took over the global logistics service provider UTi Worldwide , which employed around 23,000 people in 58 countries. As a result, the workforce of the company doubled and DSV became the fifth largest transport and logistics company in the world in terms of company sales behind DHL , Kuehne + Nagel , Schenker and CH Robinson . In 2017, DSV had a market share of around 2%.

  • 2012: After DSV entered into a joint venture with the INKAS Group of Companies to establish the logistics network in South America in 2009 , DSV buys the remaining 60% and becomes the sole owner of DSV-GL Latin America SA
  • 2016: The integration of UTi Worldwide makes DSV the fifth largest logistics company in the world.
  • 2019: Acquisition of the Swiss transport and logistics service provider Panalpina (implemented after it initially threatened to fail due to resistance from Panalpina's major shareholder Ernst Göhner Foundation)
