The DT-30 "Vitjas" ( Russian ДТ-30 "Витязь" , German: Recke ) is a floatable and extremely off-road multi-purpose vehicle on chains from the Russian manufacturer Vitjas (belongs to the Uralwagonsawod , part of Rostec ). It was developed in the Soviet Union as early as the 1970s to transport loads of up to 30 tons in difficult-to-access areas with extreme climatic conditions.

Development history

The development of the vehicle became necessary because the existing off-road vehicles only had a payload that was limited to a maximum of five tons. The first prototypes of the Vitjas series were developed at the Scientific Research Institute 21 (Научно-исследовательский институт 21, НИИ-21) in Bronnizy near Moscow . Vehicles that time still as DT-L and DT LP (floating version) (ДТ-ЛП or ДТ-Л) described above were in February 1971 at the mechanical engineering factory in Rubtsovsk (Рубцовский машиностроительный завод) in the Altai Mountains built. They then went through tests. The smaller models DT-10P, DT-20 and DT-20P (ДТ-10П, ДТ-20 and ДТ-20П) entered service with the armed forces in 1980. In 1981 the tests on the model DT-30 were completed and the first model of the "Vitjas" series was produced in series. Production took place in the branch office of the Rubzowsk mechanical engineering plant in Ischimbai, Bashkir, built in 1977 . The DT-30 has been in series production since 1982. Since then, various variants of the vehicle have been created.

The vehicle consists of two elements. The driver's cab with a passenger cabin, which, depending on the version, can accommodate four to seven people, is located in the front part. The motor and the gear unit are located directly behind it. The engine also transmits the torque to the second vehicle element via a cardan shaft . So all four chains of the vehicle are driven. Hydraulic cylinders exist between the two vehicle parts , which allow the vehicle to move apart or to compress horizontally and vertically on each side in any direction or to keep the vehicle combination in the plane if the relief is uneven. This makes it possible to drive over trenches up to four meters wide or to overcome vertical obstacles up to one and a half meters high. The vehicle has an autonomous heater for the engine and cabin and can therefore be used in a wide temperature range from −50 ° C to 40 ° C (military version: −45 ° C to 40 ° C). Each 1.1m wide crawler track units from metal with chain pads allow the vehicle to a specific ground pressure exerted on the ground of only 0.3 kg / cm², can be so driven in very soft ground without sinking. The guide wheels are designed in such a way that dirt and icing of the chassis are minimized. The engine is a V12 multi-fuel engine of Soviet design with liquid cooling . A diesel engine from Cummins with a turbocharger can also be ordered. The motor can either be started electrically using a 24 V battery or pneumatically using compressed air. The combined thermosiphon heating system with oil enables engine starts down to −50 ° C. The power is transmitted via a hydrodynamic torque converter , which provides high or low torques continuously depending on the requirements (e.g. load or incline). An automatic four-speed gearbox with differential lock provides the necessary gear ratio, the van variant can be equipped with an automatic six-speed gearbox from Allison . In order to optimally transfer the drive power to the four chains, the vehicle has two planetary gears and a bevel gear with differential lock in each of the two elements .

Versions

Different superstructures can be implemented on different civilian base variants. There are also military variants on which various weapon systems can be mounted.

  • DT-30P-1 - buoyant basic variant, which weighs 28 t, has a length of 15.9 m and is powered by a Soviet / Russian multi-fuel engine W46 from the Chelyabinsky Traktorny Sawod with 710 hp.
  • DT-30-1 - non-buoyant basic variant, with a 10.6 m long loading area on the second segment. This variant weighs 29 t and is 15.9 m long. The fording depth is 1.8 m.
  • DT-30PMN - buoyant, modernized basic variant, which weighs 30 t and is almost 16.1 m long. The engine is a JaMS -8401 with 800 hp. There are 4 + 2 places in the cabin.
  • DT-30PM - buoyant modernized variant for the Russian armed forces with a maximum speed of 44 km / h (land, 5 km / h floating) and a range of 700 km. The length is 16.2 m. There is room for five people in the armored cabin. Goods up to 6 m long can be transported in the second unit. He wears in the armed forces nicknamed Wesdjesuschi (Russian: Вездесущий - German: Omnipresent ). Various weapon systems can be mounted on the second vehicle unit. This is how the Russian military has
    • DT-30PM-T1 - DT-30PM with the tactical short-range anti-aircraft missile system 9K330 Tor-M2 for the arctic armed forces
    • DT-30PM-T2 - DT-30PM for technical support and maintenance of the DT-30PM-T1
    • DT-30PM with short-range anti-aircraft missile system 96K6 Panzir in the Panzir-SA version for the arctic armed forces
  • DT-30MN - non-floatable, modernized basic variant, with a 10 m long loading area on the second segment. It weighs 29 t, is 16.24 m long and is also powered by a JaMS-8401 with 800 hp. The fording depth is 1.8 m. The cabin has 4 + 2 places.
