Dabiq ( Arabic دابق, DMG Dābiq ) is a northern Syrian town in the Aleppo governorate . It is located about 40 km northeast of Aleppo and about 10 km south of the border between Turkey and Syria . The 2004 census showed 3364 residents.

According to Islamic eschatology , here Sahīh Muslim , Book 41, Hadith 6924, Muslim armies will meet their enemies in Dabiq or Amuq at the end of time.

On August 24, 1516, the Ottomans defeated the Egyptian Mamluks here in the Battle of Marj Dabiq .

During the civil war in Syria , the city was captured by the terrorist Islamic State (IS) in August 2014 . Although the city has little military significance, it is highly symbolic for the terrorist militia.

In October 2016, Turkey launched an offensive on the city as part of the Euphrates shield . Positions of the IS were artillery guns of the types T-122 Sakarya and T-155 FIRTINA fired. At the same time, F-16 fighter planes of the Turkish Air Force attacked positions. On October 16, drew battle tanks of the types Leopard 2A4 and Sabra and armored personnel carriers of the 2nd Army , accompanied by rebels associations of the Free Syrian Army entered the city. The IS was weakened due to the previous bombings and offered only minimal resistance to the superior military force, so it withdrew its fighters to the cities of Bizaʿa and above all al-Bab .
