Danger Dan (born June 1, 1983 in Aachen ; real name: Daniel Pongratz ) is a German rapper . He is active both solo and as a member of the antelope gang .

Life

Daniel Pongratz grew up as one of four sons of the educator Ludwig A. Pongratz in Aachen. His parents came from the left-wing scene, his father later became a professor of education at the Technical University of Darmstadt . They encouraged his musical talent at an early age, just like that of his younger brother Tobias. Daniel Pongratz played in various punk bands at an early age , but also as a pianist in a funk band , while his brother discovered his love for hip-hop and brought him into contact with it.

Daniel Pongratz had a few jobs while he was preparing for high school, including working as an extra for the soap opera Marienhof and as a composer and writer for puppet theater pieces . Without a high school diploma, he began studying music therapy at the University of Maastricht in the Netherlands, which he achieved through an excellent entrance exam. There he met Sebastian Sturm and became part of the reggae band Jin Jin from Aachen. He then dropped out of his studies to earn his living as a musician. He also worked as a music teacher at a secondary school . With Sebastian Sturm he recorded the two albums This Change Is Nice (2006) and One Moment in Peace (2010).

Sebastian Sturm, Moses Christoph and he founded the Cheer Up Trio and toured the United States and Europe, among other places. The trio stayed together until around 2012.

Daniel Pongratz also stayed true to hip-hop. Together with his brother Panik Panzer and Koljah, he founded the gangsta rap satire project Caught in the Crack in 2005, which released two internet albums in 2005 and 2008. There he gave himself the name Dan Juan de Marcos , and as a rapper he took over the pseudonym Danger Dan, which he had already used as a reggae musician. At the same time, the hip-hop collective Anti-Alles-Aktion was created . Together with Panik Panzer, Koljah and NMZS, this project eventually became the Antilopen Gang .

In 2008 Danger Dan released his solo debut, the EP Coming Out . On the album, he deals with anti-Semitism and the Shoah , among other things , which earned him an honorable mention in the Jüdische Allgemeine . Otherwise he devoted himself to various music and theater projects, among other things, he was active on behalf of the Goethe Institute in 17 different countries and organized radio projects , concerts and theater performances there. In 2012 his second EP Dinkelbrot & Ölsardinen and the collab album Aschenbecher with NMZS appeared.

Then the antelope gang began to be successful and Danger Dan focused on this project, which after the suicide of NMZS consists of him, his brother and Koljah.

On June 1, 2018, his 35th birthday, his first solo album was released, the reflections from the glossed over life on Jochen's small record company , which reached number 20 in the German charts.
