Danièle Thompson (born January 3, 1942 in Monaco ) is a French screenwriter and director .

Life and professional development

Danièle Thompson, daughter of the actress Jacqueline Roman and the actor, screenwriter and director Gérard Oury , wrote the screenplay for the film Drei Bruchpiloten in Paris (1966) together with her father when she was in her mid- twenties . Another nine successful films followed. She was also able to demonstrate her talent for comedic and optimistic writing with the screenwriter and director Jean-Charles Tacchella ; the joint film Cousin, Cousin (1975) was nominated for an Oscar in 1977. Her preferred topic, family, runs like a red thread through her film work, whether in other comedies such as La Boum - Die Fete (1980) or sophisticated film dramas such as Patrice Chéreaus Who Loves Me Takes the Train (1996). At the end of the film, however, the focus of her work is optimism and a close look at the behavior of a certain group of people.

At the 1986 Cannes International Film Festival , Thompson was a member of the jury under jury president Sydney Pollack .

Her son Christopher Thompson (* 1966) has been at her side, as she did with her father, since her directorial debut La Bûche (1999) as a co-writer. The psychologist and author Caroline Thompson (* 1964) is their daughter.

In 2007 her film A Perfect Place was one of 61 films that a committee selected from a total of nine films for the best foreign language film at the Oscar. However, it was not enough for a second Oscar nomination. This was followed by the social comedy Affären à la carte , which was shown in German cinemas in summer 2009.
