biography

Alfreider grew up in Kolfuschg , a fraction of Corvara in the South Tyrolean Val Badia . He studied civil engineering at the Technical University of Munich . After graduating with a degree in engineering , he completed a master's degree in public procurement law at the Libera Università Maria Santissima Assunta in Rome . From 2005 he worked as a civil engineer, and since 2008 he has been involved in the planning of the Brenner Base Tunnel .

Alfreider was initially politically active at the local level. In his home town of Corvara, he was a member of the community committee as a consultant for urban planning, mobility and innovation. On March 24, 2012 he was elected deputy chairman of the party by the regional assembly of the South Tyrolean People's Party on the proposal of SVP Ladina . In the internal party primaries in the course of the preparations for the parliamentary elections in 2013 , he reached number 3 on the list of candidates for the Chamber of Deputies . In the elections to the Chamber of Deputies on February 24th and 25th, the SVP won 24.2% of the votes in the multi-person constituency of Trentino-South Tyrol , which allowed Alfreider to win a mandate. He thus became the first Ladin representative of South Tyrol in the Italian parliament. In December 2013, the Italian government appointed Alfreider as the first Ladin member of the six-member commission, which draws up implementing provisions for the further development of South Tyrolean autonomy . As a parliamentarian, he introduced a constitutional law that eliminated various forms of discrimination against the Ladin minority in the South Tyrolean Statute of Autonomy and was finally passed in 2017 after a lengthy legislative process. In the parliamentary elections in March 2018 , he decided not to run again in order to run for the state elections in October 2018 later that year . With 12,114 preferential votes, he succeeded in entering the South Tyrolean state parliament and, at the same time, the regional council of Trentino-South Tyrol . After serving temporarily as Vice President of the State Parliament, Alfreider was elected to the South Tyrolean provincial government on January 25, 2019 . There he took over the departments of Ladin Education, Ladin Culture, Transport Network and Mobility in the Kompatscher II cabinet and acts as the third deputy governor.
