Daniel Frank Austin

Daniel Frank Austin (born May 18, 1943 in Paducah , Kentucky , † January 20, 2015 in Tucson , Arizona ) was an American botanist . Its official botanical author abbreviation is " DF Austin ", " Austin " was also used earlier .

Life

Austin studied biology at Murray State University , where he received his bachelor's degree in 1966 . He earned his master's (1969) and doctorate (1970) while working at Washington University and the Missouri Botanical Garden , and his dissertation was on "A Monograph of the American Erycibeae (Convolvulaceae): Maripa, Dicranostyles and Lysiostyles" . He works for the University of Arizona Department of Plant Sciences, the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum, Drylands Institute, Florida International University's Department of Biological Sciences, and theFairchild Tropical Garden . He is Professor Emeritus at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton .

research

Since the 1970s, research attention Austin is on the wind plants (Convolvulaceae), especially in the American species of the genus of morning glories ( Ipomoea ). His research also focuses on evolutionary biology, ethnobotany and the influence of foreign plants on endangered plant species.

Publications

Daniel Frank Austin has published over 35 books and individual chapters of books, is (co-) author of over 100 articles in scientific magazines and over 60 articles in popular science. His book Florida Ethnobotany won the "Mary W. Klinger Award" in 2005 and was nominated for the "Council on Botanical & Horticultural Libraries' Seventh Annual Literature Award" in 2006.
