Daniel Roberdeau
Daniel Roberdeau (born 1727 in St. Christopher , Caribbean ; † January 5, 1795 in Winchester , Frederick County , Virginia ) was an American businessman, politician and general during the American Revolutionary War .
Career
His family immigrated to the United States during his childhood years and settled in Philadelphia . There he completed his preparatory studies and went into the lumber business. He was a member of the Colonial Assembly between 1756 and 1760 . He was also manager of the Pennsylvania Hospital from 1756 to 1758 and again from 1766 to 1776 . He was also a member of the Council of Safety . Roberdeau was named first brigadier general of Pennsylvania's forces in 1776 . The following year he was elected to the Continental Congress and worked there until 1779. During this time he signed the Articles of Confederation . He later moved to Alexandria, Virginia in 1786 .
He died in Winchester in 1795 and was buried in Mount Hebron Cemetery .
