Thomas Adams (politician)

Thomas Adams (* 1730 in New Kent County , Colony of Virginia , † August 1788 in Augusta County , Virginia) was an American politician and businessman from Virginia.

Life

Adams attended community schools. He then worked as the Clerk of Henrico County . Then he traveled to England in 1762 , where he went about his business until 1774. Before the outbreak of the war of independence he returned to America. He became a member of the House of Burgesses of Virginia and signed the Articles of Association on May 27, 1774 . That same year he was also the chairman of the New Kent County Committee of Safety . Then from 1778 to 1779 he was a member of the Continental Congress , where he signed the Articles of Confederation . In 1780 he moved to Augusta County. He was later elected to the Virginia Senate, which he served from 1783 to 1786.

Adams died in 1788 on his estate "Cowpasture" in Augusta County.
