Daniel Theaker

Daniel George Theaker (* the thirtieth March 1967 in Edmonton , Alberta ) is a composer of neo-romanticism . He works as a conductor and plays various woodwind instruments himself . He describes himself as a master of the bass oboe and the heckelphone . He also sees himself as a user of the "elastic scoring" instrumentation, which was devised by Percy Grainger .

Life

Theaker studied composition and conducting at Mount Allison University in Sackville, New Brunswick . There he obtained his bachelor's degree and was then active as a composer, conductor and composer. At the same time, he attended other courses in conducting for wind ensemble and enjoyed the training of the conducting teacher Eugene Corporon. From 1991 to 1998 Theaker was the first line-up for flute and piccolo in the Regimental Band of the Governor General's Foot Guards. During this time he also performed with the Ceremonial Guard and graduated from the Canadian Forces School of Music. Here he conducted a concert performance of Stravinsky's The Story of the Soldier and Gustav Holst 's Second Suite in F.

Daniel Theaker's flute quartets are well known in the classical flutist community. His scale and arpeggio books for wood and brass instruments are also widely used in conservatories. In addition, Daniel Theaker has rearranged pieces by Glenn Gould and Calixa Lavallée .

Influences

In his works he follows composers such as Modest Mussorgski , Gustav Holst and Alban Berg , but is also influenced by Philip Glass . He created works for piano , instrumental concerts and chamber music as well as textbooks for wood and brass instruments, but also appeared as an arranger of compositions by Glenn Gould .
