Daniele di Bonaventura (born April 6, 1966 in Fermo ) is an Italian jazz musician ( bandoneon , also piano , composition ).

Live and act

Bonaventura began to be interested in music at the age of five. First he learned the piano and keyboards. His older brother introduced him to the music of Genesis , his father to the operas of Puccini and Verdi . Soon he discovered jazz and folklore. Bonaventura studies classical composition at the conservatory in order to then work as a classical interpreter. Then he switched to the bandoneon.

Bonaventura tried from the beginning to find his own language on this instrument. On his album Bandoneon & Bandoneon (2000) he juxtaposed the instrument with the sound world of the piano. He is involved in numerous projects: In addition to his own quartet Band'Union , he plays in a duo with trumpeter Paolo Fresu and in the formation Mistico Mediterraneo with the Corsican choir A Filetta , which cultivates the local tradition of polyphonic singing. In 2003 he performed his suite for bandoneon and orchestra with the Marchigiana Philharmonia , which was commissioned by the same orchestra.

Bonaventura has given concerts at important Italian and international festivals such as Clusone Jazz 2001, Biennale di Venezia 2001, Sant'Anna Arresi Jazz 2004, Umbria Jazz 2015/2017, German Jazz Festival , JazzFest Berlin and Jazz in Marciac . He has also played with Enrico Rava , Stefano Bollani , Oliver Lake , David Murray , Miroslav Vitouš , Rita Marcotulli , David Liebman , Toots Thielemans , Lenny White , Robin Kenyatta , Omar Sosa , Joanne Brackeen , Greg Osby , André Jaume , Furio Di Castri , UT Gandhi , Mathias Eick , Bendik Hofseth , Pierre Favre , Jaques Morelenbaum and Ivan Lins . He can also be heard on albums with Javier Girotto , Krzysztof Kobyliński and Gianni Coscia . He has also written film scores, for example for the feature film Calcolo infinitesimale (by Roberto Minini Merot and Enzo Papetti , 2016) or Wenn aus dem Himmel (by Fabrizio Ferraro , 2015).

With Band'Union (with Marcello Peghin on 10-string guitar, bassist Felice del Gaudio and Alfredo Laviano on percussion) he released the album Garofani Rossi in 2019 , on which songs of resistance are interpreted in the manner of the folklore imaginaire .

The documentary Monsieur di Bonaventura (by Cathy Rocchi 2015), broadcast in France 3 , was made about him .
