Javier Edgardo Girotto (born April 17, 1965 in Córdoba ) is an Argentine jazz saxophonist, clarinet player and flutist of Italian descent.

Live and act

In his childhood, Girotto first played the drum, then the clarinet in the Infanto Juvenil de Córdoba orchestra and the Rosario Chapel. From the age of 16 he attended the flute and clarinet class at the Conservatorio Provincial de Córdoba and played in various jazz, folk and fusion groups such as Vertiente , Jazz 440 and the quartets of Enzo Piccioni and Juan Ciallella .

In 1984 he received a scholarship to study at Berklee College of Music , which he graduated summa cum laude four years later . There Joseph Viola , George Garzone , Hal Crook and Jerry Bergonzi were among his teachers, and he had the opportunity to perform with musicians such as Danilo Pérez , Bob Moses and Herb Pomeroy .

At the age of 25 Girotto came to Italy, where he worked with various Latin and jazz formations. He founded his first group, the Latin jazz sextet Tercer Mundo , in the early 1990s with Horacio "El Negro" Hernández . His next project was the saxophone band Six-Sax with Paolo Recchia and Daniele Tittarelli , Gianni Saelli , Marco Siniscalco and the percussionist Pietro Iodice . With this group and the guests Bob Mintzer and Randy Brecker , he recorded his first album Homenaje in 1995 .

At the same time he founded the group Aires Tango with the pianist Alessandro Gwis , the bassist Marco Siniscalco and the percussionist Michele Rabbia , with which he played a fusion of jazz and Argentine tango and recorded a total of seven albums. With three musicians from his hometown, the pianist Gerardo Di Giusto , the percussionist Minino Garay and the bassist Carlos "El Tero" Buschini , he founded the group Cordoba Reunion in 1999 , with which he played and played music influenced by milonga , chacarera , samba and candombe recorded an album with the singer Mercedes Sosa .

In the following year Girotto founded two duos: one with the bandoneonist Daniele di Bonaventura , with whom he recorded the albums Javier Girotto Plays Rava , Recordando Piazzolla and Recordando Gardel , and one with the accordionist Luciano Biondini , with whom he recorded two CDs with his own compositions ( El Cacerolazo , 2002 and Terra Madre 2005). With the pianist Natalio Mangalavite he recorded the album Colibri ; with him and the singer Beppe Servillo he founded the GSM Trio . This collaboration resulted in the CDs L'Amico di Cordoba and Il Manifesto CD , for which Servillo wrote the lyrics and Girotto composed the music.

In 2002 he was a member of Enrico Rava's quartet Piano Less (with Ares Tavolazzi and Fabrizio Sferra ) on the latter's album Full of Life . On the album Javier Girotto & Vertere String Quartet , Girotto played with a string quartet by Luigi Giannatempo arranged own compositions. From 2006 he realized several projects with Paolo Silvestri . With Fabrizio Bosso he founded the Latin Quintet , with which he recorded the album Tribute .
