Danny Kurmann (* 10. January 1966 ) is a professional Swiss ice hockey - referee from the community Risch .

Career

Danny Kurmann directed his first games as a referee in 1983 when he started his career in amateur leagues. In 1989 he was appointed to the Swiss National League A for the first time , in which he was employed as a linesman for the first three years and as the main referee since 1993. In 1997 he signed a professional contract with the Swiss Ice Hockey Federation and gave up his job as an air conditioning technician.

Danny Kurmann has already been assigned as a referee at several international tournaments. He directed games at the ice hockey world championships in 1999 , 2000 , 2001 , 2003 , 2004 , 2007 , 2008 and 2009 as well as the U20 world championships in 1999 , 2000 , 2003 , 2007 , 2008 and 2009 .

At the A World Cup in Norway in 1999, he directed the two finals between the Czech Republic and Finland. During the Junior World Cup 2000 in Sweden he arbitrated the gold medal game between the Czechs and the Russians. On the occasion of the Junior World Cup 2007 in Sweden, he was in charge of the Canadians' final against the Russians. At the Junior A World Championships 2009 in Canada, he led the Canadians' final against the Swedes. Danny Kurmann also took part in the Olympic Games in 2002 , 2006 and 2010 , as well as in a total of nine tournaments for the Spengler Cup .

Since its introduction in 2004, Danny Kurmann has been the Swiss representative on the IIHF Referee Exchange Program alongside Brent Reiber . On September 17, 2004 he whistled the first encounter within the framework of the exchange program: HC Moeller Pardubice against HC Rabat Kladno in the Czech extra league . Even before the program started, he was in charge of a number of games in the German Ice Hockey League . In December 1998 he was the first professional referee to lead a DEL game. Together with his colleagues Daniel Stricker , Stefan Eichmann and Brent Reiber, he founded the Swiss Referee School based on the model of the referee camps in Canada .
