history
In 1816, Mud Creek Prairie was founded by American settlers. After 1830, German settlers also came to the small town. Most of the German settlers came from Dietzenbach , Dreieichenhain and Offenbach . The Darmstadt church was consecrated in 1848. Since February 1st, 1855 the place has been called Darmstadt .
In 1880 Darmstadt had about 350 inhabitants. In 1977 the place had only about 130 inhabitants.
Today Darmstadt is part of the small town of Lenzburg.
Economy and Infrastructure
Most of Darmstadt's residents work in agriculture or in the neighboring coal mines . Darmstadt is connected to the American road network via Darmstadt Road , Coal Mine Road , New Athens Darmstadt Road , Weilmuenster Road and the IL4 . The place has no rail connection. The nearest railway connections are in Lenzburg and Marissa. The nearest international airport is in St. Louis . The Prairie State Energy Campus, LLC ( 38 ° 16 ′ 39 ″ N , 89 ° 40 ′ 3 ″ W ) is located approximately 7 km southeast of Darmstadt . There is a coal mine and a 1600 MW coal power plant on campus .
