Fairmont City is a small town in St. Clair and Madison County in the west of the US -amerikanischen state of Illinois . In 2000, Fairmont City had 2,436 residents.
The city is located not far from the east bank of the Mississippi River in the middle of the eastern suburb area called Metro-East in Illinois around the city of St. Louis in Missouri .

The city is 9.3 km east of the Mississippi River, which forms the border with Missouri.
North of the city are Interstate 55 , Interstate 70 and US Highway 40 on the same route . In the south the city is bounded by a number of railway lines.
Downtown St. Louis is approximately 14 km west of Fairmont City, Illinois' capital Springfield can be reached via Interstate 55 after 144 km in a north-northeast direction.

In the 2000 census, the population was 2,436. These were distributed to 871 households in 580 families. The population density was 396.5 / km². There were 392 residential buildings, which corresponded to a building density of 63.8 / km².
