history

From around 1800 French settlers crossed the country and some of them also settled here. (Hence place names such as "Saint Louis", "Saint Clair".) From 1830 onwards there was an onslaught of German settlers, some of them from other areas of the USA, but most of them directly from Germany.

In 1861 the pastor Wilhelm Busch gave the German settlement “German Settlement of Prairie du Long” the name “Paderborn”.

A Catholic church was built as early as 1859 and was consecrated to St. Michael . The names on the gravestones in the old cemetery next to the church are reminiscent of the German immigrants of the 19th century .
