Hartford is a village on the east bank of the Mississippi River in Madison County in the west of the US -amerikanischen state of Illinois . The city is located in the eastern part of the Greater St. Louis metropolitan area called Metro-East around the city of St. Louis in neighboring Missouri . In 2000 Hartford had 1,545 residents.

Hartford is the birth town of actor Clint Walker .

History

The participants of the Lewis and Clark expedition spent the winter of 1803/1804 near what is now Hartford before the expedition started.

Today's Hartford Parish came into being in 1920 when the residents of the previously unincorporated area decided to start their own parish.

Demographic data

In the 2010 census, the population was 1,429. These were distributed to 613 households in 450 families. The population density was 143.0 inhabitants / km². There were 677 residential buildings, which corresponded to a building density of 67.8 residential buildings / km².

The population in 2000 was 98.4% white , 0.1% African American , 0.2% Native American , 0.3% Asian, and 0.3% other. 0.5% said they came from at least two of these groups. 0.7% of the population were Hispanics belonging to any of the above groups.

23.3% were under 18 years of age, 7.5% between 18 and 24, 28.9% between 25 and 44, 23.6% between 45 and 64 and 16.8% 65 and older. The mean age was 39 years. Statistically, there were 101.4 men for every 100 women, 94.6 among those over 18.

The median income per household was $ 33,828 and the median family income was $ 40,652. The median income for men was $ 31,694 and that for women was $ 20,156. The per capita income was $ 16,160. Around 10.3% of families and 13.0% of the total population had their income below the poverty line .
