Pontoon Beach is a village in Madison County in the west of the US -amerikanischen state of Illinois . In 2000 Pontoon Beach had 5620 residents.
The city is located not far from the east bank of the Mississippi River in the middle of the eastern suburb area called Metro-East in Illinois around the city of St. Louis in Missouri .

Pontoon Beach is located at 38 ° 43'34 north latitude and 90 ° 03'38 "west longitude. The city extends over 21.9 km², which is spread over 21.2 km² of land and 0.7 km² of water.
The city about 11 km east of the Mississippi River, which forms the border to Missouri.
North of Pontoon Beach runs in a west-east direction with Interstate 270, a feeder to Interstate 70 , the eastern end of the place is the north-south running Interstate 255 , which forms a feeder to Interstate 55 . Illinois State Routes 3 , 111 , 162, and 203 and a number of secondary roads run through Pontoon Beach .
In the south of the place several parallel railway lines run in a northeast-southwest direction.
Downtown St. Louis is around 20 km southwest of Pontoon Beach, Illinois' capital Springfield can be reached via Interstate 55 after 140 km in a north-northeast direction.

In the 2000 census, the population was 5,620. These were distributed over 2,134 households in 1,519 families. The population density was 265.1 / km². There were 2,343 residential buildings, which corresponded to a building density of 110.5 / km².
The population in 2000 was 87.7% white , 8.9% African American , 0.6% American Indian , 0.8% Asian and 0.7% other. 1.3% said they came from at least two of these groups. 1.9% of the population consisted of Hispanics belonging to any of the named groups.

The median age was 32 years. For every 100 female residents there were statistically 96.5 males, 91.9 among those over 18 years of age.
