East Alton is a town (with the status " Village ") in Madison County in the west of the US -amerikanischen state of Illinois . In 2010 East Alton had 6,301 inhabitants.
The city is located in the eastern part of the Greater St. Louis metropolitan area called Metro-East around the city of St. Louis in neighboring Missouri .

East Alton is located in the northern suburbs of St. Louis on the left bank of the Mississippi , which forms the border with the state of Missouri. The place is located at 38 ° 52'49 "north latitude and 90 ° 06'40" west longitude and extends over 15 km², which is spread over 14 km² of land and 1 km² of water. The place is in the Wood River Township .
East Alton is directly bordered by the urban area of Wood River in the southeast , Rosewood Heights in the east, Bethalto in the northeast and Alton in the west. On the opposite bank of the Mississippi is St. Charles County , Missouri. Downtown St. Louis is 21 miles south.
