occupation

The secret of the flying devils (original title: Without Warning ) is a science fiction / horror film with Martin Landau and Jack Palance from 1980. The alternative title is Alien Shock .

action

A hunter and his son are hunting at a remote forest lake. While they are arguing, the father is suddenly attacked and killed by flying, jellyfish-like objects. The same fate befell the son shortly afterwards. Shortly afterwards, a group of teenagers arrive to go on a weekend hiking trip by the lake. As soon as they arrive, Tom, Greg, Beth and Sandy meet the strange gas station owner Joe Taylor, who expressly warns them and a group of boy scouts who have arrived at the same time not to camp in the area. Both groups ignore the warning. Suddenly Tom and Beth disappear and are found dead in an abandoned hut by the other two. They flee in a panic to their car and can escape back to the gas station. While Greg is informing the locals about the incident, Sandy escapes in a panic into the forest, where Joe Taylor finds her and brings her back to the gas station.

In the meantime the sheriff has arrived. However, this is shot by the paranoid Fred Dobbs. Greg and Sandy lead Joe Taylor to the hut, where Taylor finds the bodies of Beth and Tom, as well as the leader of the Boy Scouts. Taylor suspects that these are the hunting trophies of an alien hunting man in the area. When the alien suddenly appears, the teenagers flee alone, while Taylor performs a distraction . They stop a police car, which is driven by the now completely insane Dobbs. Dobbs thinks the teenagers are aliens, but they manage to escape from the car.

Sandy and Greg arrive at an empty house where they spend the night. Sandy suddenly wakes up in the middle of the night to find Greg killed by the alien. When it attacks her too, she is saved by Taylor. Both return to the hut to set the alien in a booby trap with dynamite . However, the plan is disrupted at the last minute by Dobbs attacking Taylor. While the two are fighting, the alien arrives and kills Dobbs. Taylor lures the alien into the hut and Sandy sets off the demolition, which also kills Taylor.

background

Kevin Peter Hall plays the alien hunter who hunts people in impassable, remote terrain. In 1987 he played the extraterrestrial hunter again in Predator in a similar plot, albeit with significantly more commercial success. The premiere in Germany took place on May 6, 1989 on television.

criticism

The lexicon of international film was reminded of bygone times: "A laboriously developed horror film based on the pattern of second-rate B-Pictures" of the 50s. " Tom Buckley saw the good scenes of the film borrowed from successful films and the filmmakers in the New York Times fail the problem of what to show between scenes with the worms.
