Dascyllus abudafur is a kind from the family of damselfish (Pomacentridae). It occurs in lagoons and coastal coral reefs in the Red Sea and in the tropical Indian Ocean to the eastern edge of the Sunda Shelf . The species was onlyseparatedfrom the three-banded Prussian fish ( Dascyllus aruanus )in December 2014. This is now limited to the tropical Pacific. The limit of distribution of the two species is the Lombok Strait . The Art epithet abudafur comes from the Swedish / Finnish naturalist Peter Forsskål , the 1775 one in the Red Sea in Jeddah caught between coral fish as abu Darfur Chaetodon called and the similarity with Aruani ( Linnaeus noticed).
features
Dascyllus abudafur is very similar to the three-banded Prussian fish, its Pacific sister species . Like this, it is on average 6.5 centimeters long, high-backed, flattened on the sides and of a white base color. Three broad black transverse ligaments run from the base of the dorsal fin over the head to the throat, from the middle of the dorsal fin to the black pelvic fins and from the back of the dorsal fin to the anal fin . The caudal fin is forked. The species has 15 to 19 scales along the lateral organ . The number of gill trap processes is 21 to 26.
- Fins formula : dorsal XII / 11–13, anals II / 11–13, pectorals 17–19
Dascyllus abudafur differs from the three-banded Prussian fish in that it has a gray to black caudal fin base (white in the three-banded Prussian fish) and genetic characteristics. For example, no mitochondal haplotype typical of the fish in the Indian Ocean was found in animals from the western Pacific and no haplotype characteristic of the Pacific three-banded Prussian fish was found in those from the Indian Ocean. On three sections of the Cytochrome b has Dascyllus abudafur the amino acid sequence of A , T , T, Dascyllus aruanus contrast, G , C , C.
