David Baker (born October 17, 1986 in Charlotte , North Carolina ) is a professional American poker player . He is two-time bracelet winner of the World Series of Poker . He is nicknamed "Bakes" because of a poker player of the same name .

Personal

Baker studied at Michigan State University in East Lansing for two years but did not graduate due to his poker career. He lives in Las Vegas .

Poker career

Career

Baker discovered poker in high school and began playing for money during his studies. In private rounds, he played with Justin Scott and Dean Hamrick , who are now also professional poker players and each of the World Series of Poker bracelet winners . Baker has been playing online since July 2006 under the nicknames WhooooKidd ( PokerStars and Absolute Poker) and Bussa Buss ( Full Tilt Poker and UltimateBet ) . He has earned more than five million US dollars with online tournament poker , with the majority of more than four million dollars being won on the PokerStars platform . At the World Championship of Online Poker played there in 2014 , Baker prevailed in an event in the 8-game variant . Since 2007 he has also participated in renowned live tournaments .

Baker's first live cash placement came in November 2007 at the World Poker Tour (WPT) Main Event in Mashantucket , where he received nearly $ 20,000 for his 35th place. In mid-April 2008 he took second place at a tournament of the Five Star World Poker Classic at the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas, which was worth around $ 230,000. In June 2008 , Baker was successful for the first time at the World Series of Poker (WSOP) in the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas and came twice, a. a. in the main event , in the money ranks. At the 2010 WSOP , Baker finished sixth in the Poker Player's Championship for over $ 270,000 and a few days later won the No Limit Deuce to Seven Draw World Championship . For this he received a bracelet and a prize of almost $ 300,000. In mid-January 2011, Baker finished sixth at the PokerStars Caribbean Adventures high roller event in the Bahamas , which was paid for around $ 200,000. A month later, he finished seventh in the WPT main event in Los Angeles, earning more than $ 175,000. At the 2012 WSOP , Baker won a tournament in HORSE and received his second bracelet in addition to his highest prize money to date of over $ 450,000 . A year later, he reached eight cash placements and three final tables at the World Series of Poker , placing him fifth in the WSOP Player of the Year ranking. At the 2018 WSOP , Baker finished second in a HORSE event after losing heads-up to John Hennigan for more than $ 250,000.

In total, Baker has earned more than $ 3 million in poker playing live tournaments.
