David Batchelor

David Batchelor (born July 17, 1955 in Dundee , Scotland ) is a Scottish artist and author.

Life

Batchelor studied art at Trent Polytechnic in Nottingham , England from 1975 to 1978 and then from 1988 to 1980 cultural theory at the Center for Contemporary Cultural Studies at Birmingham University . So far (2017) he has published three books on colors and has been the author of various articles in magazines such as Artscribe , Frieze and Artforum . From 2002 to 2005, Batchelor served on the Program and Development Advisory Board at Tate Britain in London . Batchelor is today Associate Professor in the Department of Curature of Contemporary Art at the Royal College of Art in London .

For his light installations (lightboxes), Batchelor often uses objects that he finds on the streets of London as bulky waste or that have been thrown away by the industry. He transforms these parts into frames, which then contain neon lights, discarded advertising lights, etc.
