David Grottschreiber

David Grottschreiber (born April 29, 1982 in Stade ) is a German jazz musician ( trombone , composition , arrangement and big band leader).

Live and act

Grottschreiber grew up near Hamburg and began playing the trombone when he was eleven . From 2001 to 2003 he studied jazz trombone at the Hamburg University of Music and was a member of the state youth jazz orchestras of Lower Saxony and Hamburg. Until 2005 he studied at the Hogeschool voor de Kunsten Rotterdam . During this time he was a member of the Federal Jazz Orchestra under the direction of Peter Herbolzheimer , for which he also wrote compositions. In 2005 he continued his studies (jazz trombone and composition) at the Lucerne School of Music (graduated in 2008).

As an ensemble leader and (with Jan Schreiner and Matthias Tschopp ) co-founder he worked with the Lucerne Jazz Orchestra ( Don't Walk Too Far , 2009); He also worked with the Sunday Night Orchestra , Jazzwerkstatt Bern, Big Band Fette Hup Hannover, Berlin Art Orchestra and the Metropole Orkest . He worked as a copyist for Bob Brookmeyer and played a. a. with Ohad Talmor , Hayden Chisholm , Nils Wogram , Claudio Puntin and Oliver Leicht . He composed a. a. a mass for choir and jazz orchestra .

Grottschreiber teaches music theory , ensemble courses in jazz and jazz theory at the Institute for Jazz and Folk Music at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts.

Prizes and awards

In 2008 Grottschreiber received the Lucerne work grant ; He is also the winner of several international composition competitions, such as the BuJazzO composition competition 2010.
