David Lucas Kühl (born October 20, 1752 in Stralsund ; † January 9, 1837 there ) was a German lawyer and mayor of Stralsund .

Life

David Lucas Kühl attended the Sundisches Gymnasium in the former St. Catherine's Monastery in Stralsund from 1764 to 1771 . In 1771 his father took him to the coronation of King Gustav III. of Sweden . He began to study law at the University of Göttingen in 1772 , and in 1775 he moved to the University of Greifswald . In 1776 he was admitted to the bar both at the Stralsund courts and at the court court in Greifswald. From 1782 he was admitted to the Wismar Tribunal as a lawyer . In the same year he took over the office of lawyer for the monastery of St. Jürgen vor Rambin .

He was elected to the Stralsund City Council in 1787. In 1794 he became court director and from 1802 to 1837 he was mayor of Stralsund.

As one of three members of Stralsund and spokesman for the third estate (the citizens), he took part in the Greifswald state parliament in 1806 . During the French period in 1808 he negotiated with Napoleon in Erfurt during the Prince's Congress . Together with Carl Dietrich Schoultz von Ascheraden, he brought the city's request to reduce the number of French troops stationed in Stralsund and Swedish Pomerania , the supply of which was a heavy burden for the city and the population. The troop withdrawal that began soon after did not happen for this reason, but because France needed the troops in Spain . Napoleon's order to demolish the Stralsund city fortifications to reduce the city's strategic importance corresponded to a request from Kühl's companion Schoultz von Ascheraden.

In 1810, Kühl traveled to Sweden as a deputy from Stralsund to elect Jean-Baptiste Bernadotte as crown prince.

The University of Greifswald awarded him a doctorate in 1817. He was awarded the Prussian Order of the Red Eagle and was a knight of the Swedish North Star Order .

He wrote a description of his life, which reached the Stralsund council library as a manuscript and is now kept in the Stralsund city archive .

David Lucas Kühl was married to Johanna Juliana Kühl, née Natorp (* 1762).
