David "Jumper" Munyon (born August 19, 1952 in Newport , Rhode Island ) is an American singer-songwriter and guitarist .

Life

David Munyon was the last of five children of the spouses Chet Munyon (a NASA - technicians and Lola Mae Munyon (the daughter of) preacher born) and has been making his 12 years music.

In the Netherlands , a cinema music documentary was shown in early 2009, in which David Munyon is portrayed in his home country. The film Searchin 'for the heart of the Heartlands was shot in the USA in autumn 2008 based on an idea by Ad van Meurs. The film was released on DVD at the end of 2009.

David Munyon is also an avid hobby - painter , of his own, rather than naive art itself like "Cool Art à la be designated frugal style as Vincent van Gogh meets Forrest Gump describes".

Munyon has a much larger fan base in Europe than in his American homeland. This is partly due to the fact that he toured several European countries between 1994 and 2006 and that eight of his previous album CDs were released by the German labels Glitterhouse Records and Stockfisch Records . His debut album , CodeName: Jumper ( 1990 ), was originally reported to have sold fewer than 700 copies in the USA, but the later German re-release was far more successful. In addition to the nine "official" albums, Munyon also has three album CD-Rs from his own productions in his repertoire , which he only produces at short notice as required and then only sells them himself via the mail order service.

While his unspectacular Roots or Americana music with mostly just coming to the point texts the Folk - R & B - and blues - Fans delighted alike, particularly fascinated by the very highly regarded in audiophile circles cod productions from the renowned studio of Günter Pauler in Lower Saxony Northeim the "harmony fanatics" and made the deeply religious "jumper" Munyon, after many alcohol problems in the 1970s , from the mid- 1990s, mainly in Germany , the Netherlands and the UK a real insider - tip . This non- mainstream status is also reflected in his unspectacular, almost intimate appearances in front of a small audience , which often last three or even four hours and are only interrupted by him for short "pee breaks". And the fact that he constantly responds to the repertoire wishes of his audience, even thanking them politely again and again, is quite simply in the nature of the Yogananda disciple and tireless Apostle of Peace Munyon and is unmistakably anything but pure ingratiation to his fans.

On his rather rare tours, David Munyon can even be booked for so-called home concerts or living room gigs , where he plays in front of a very small private audience. As part of such an intimate living room appearance, his first DVD was created in September 2005 in Senden in the Münsterland region .

Munyon is also an attractive songwriter for some colleagues and, for example, provided Eric Burdon with a title ("Over The Border") for his 2004 album My Secret Life and two songs for the 2006 album Soul Of A Man ("GTO" and "Never Give Up Blues") .

In July 2006 David Munyon recorded his album Song For Danko in the legendary Abbey Road Studios in London . This solo acoustic album and especially its title track is dedicated to the musician Rick Danko ( The Band ), who died in 1999. The CD was released in mid-August 2006 and, along with the other Munyon CDs, is available online from his webshop (see below).

Too Cool - Hymns from Ozark via Adelaide Street was released in March 2007 on Mobile Home Records and is a so-called Solo / Electric and Drum Machine album by David Munyon. The recordings were made in a studio in his hometown of Dothan in 2005.

In July 2007 David was again in a London studio to record his CD "Some Songs for Mary". The CD was released in February 2008 on Mobile Home Records .

In August 2007 David also recorded new songs for the audiophile label Stockfisch-Records in Northeim. The project is called "Big Shoes" and is an interesting collection of cover songs by famous musicians. This album was released in March 2009 and also presented live on a successful tour that followed.

Ron Hitchcock, of Hitchcock Media in Los Angeles, released two old albums by David Munyon in October 2007, which he recorded in California and Florida in the early 1970s. They are David Munyon's debut works Dogs Sleeping and For lovin 'someone: Early Acoustic . Both albums are currently only available for download on iTunes . Publication on CD is not planned for the time being.

From April 2008 Munyon lived in London for some time . There he recorded 13 new songs in a studio, which will be released in December 2010 for his new album "Meanwhile, Back in Japan" on Mobile Home Records . From The Shade Of The Big Mamosa , from 2001, was digitally remastered, partially re-recorded and re-released in autumn 2008 with a new cover and booklet.

In April 2011 the studio album Pretty Blue was released on Stockfisch-Records.

For the first time David Munyon released an album with Midwest on the American label Tate Music Group . The album was released in early 2012.

In early 2013 the album "Waterside - The ghost of Sonny Hamm" was released on Mobile Home Records .

In April 2013 the studio album Purple Cadillacs was released on Stockfisch Records.

On April 1, 2016, the new studio album "Clark" was released on Mobile Home Records after it was crowdfunded in autumn 2015 . The 10 songs on the album were recorded on April 1st, 2014 during a tour break in Chemnitz. In mid-May 2016 this new album was released for the first time in a 180g vinyl record version limited to 300 copies , which however had to be shortened by two songs. However, this vinyl version had major manufacturing defects in some cases, so that only about 120 largely flawless copies came into circulation.

Also on April 1, 2016, the first official live album "Official Bootleg Collection Vol. 1 - Tour 2013" was released on Mobile Home Records , parallel to the studio album . The album documents parts of the Germany Tour 2013 and is exclusively solo acoustic.

On December 19, 2016 the second official live album "Live 2014 - Official Bootleg Collection Vol. 2" was released on Mobile Home Records . This documented for the first time the long-standing occasional cooperation with the German blues musician Biber Herrmann, who intuitively and improvised underlines Munyon's songs on the second guitar. The album is accordingly blues-heavy.

At the end of February 2018 the 22nd studio album "Planetary" was self-published by Mobile Home Records and distributed by Housemaster Records. Like the previous studio album "Clark" , it was crowdfunded . The album was released on CD including a bonus DVD, on which casual demo sessions and live impressions are documented. Furthermore, a double vinyl release, limited to 300 copies, was released at the end of March 2018, which includes 4 bonus tracks in addition to the 15 regular songs. "Planetary" was recorded in the spring of 2017 during a Germany tour in the Chemnitz Sonic Music recording studio and marks the first studio album, which was created in cooperation with the German blues musician Biber Herrmann, who contributed to seven songs. The album was produced again, like "Clark" and the two Official Bootleg Live albums, by Sebastian Linke. However, the album title had to be changed after publication for trademark reasons. The original title was "Planetary Nights", which was however protected by a US band of the same name. The original copies are currently (March 2018) still being delivered. Further editions should then appear with a modified cover art. This applies to the CD as well as the vinyl, of which there will be no further edition.

On July 12, 2019, "Dresden, You are so lovely", the third part of the Official Bootleg Collection, was self-published by Mobile Home Records as a double CD and documents the complete solo live concert in the Dreikönigskirche in Dresden on March 4, 2012.

In December 2019 the 23rd studio album "Longer Road For The Songs" was published by Mobile Home Records on CD & digital as well as in a double vinyl version limited to 300 copies.
