David William Weisrock (born August 23, 1972 ) is an American zoologist , geneticist , evolutionary biologist, and university professor.

Career

David W. Weisrock studied from 1990 to 1997 at Iowa State University in Ames , Iowa . There he graduated in 1995 with a Bachelor of Science in Genetics and in 1997 with a Master of Science in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. He continued his studies at Washington University in St. Louis , Missouri , where he received his Ph.D. PhD in evolution, ecology and population biology. From 2003 to 2006 he was a postdoc at the University of Kentucky in Lexington , Kentucky and from 2006 to 2008 he was a postdoctoral fellow at Duke University in Raleigh , North Carolina .

Weisrock has been Assistant Professor of Evolutionary Biology since 2008 and is now an Associate Professor of Weisrock Labs at the University of Kentucky. Weisrock Labs conduct genetic and evolutionary research on a wide range of taxonomic groups. These include salamanders such as the North American tiger salamanders and Kentucky populations of the mud devil , Malagasy lemurs , alpine stone flies and Mesenchytraeus solifugus, and other cryosphere invertebrates .

In 2013 Weisrock and several colleagues published the first descriptions of Marohita mouse lemur and Anosy mouse lemur . In 2016 he co-authored the first description of Microcebus manitatra , Ganzhorns Mausmaki and Microcebus boraha .
