David Wong (jazz musician)
David Wong (born June 3, 1982 in New York City ) is an American jazz musician ( double bass ) of modern jazz .
Live and act
Wong grew up in New York and attended LaGuardia High School for Music, Art and the Performing Arts , where he also took lessons from Bob Stewart . In 2004 he graduated from the Juilliard School with a degree in classical music. There he had lessons with Orin O'Brien ( New York Philharmonic ), Ron Carter , Ben Wolfe and John Clayton . In 2001 the first recordings were made with the pianist Ayako Shirasaki ( Live in New York ). In 2003/04 he was a member of the Eric Reed Trio, with whom he toured worldwide.
In the following years Wong worked with musicians like Randy Napoleon , Benny Green , Dan Nimmer , Jeb Patton , Tootie Heath , Sachal Vasandani , Clark Terry , Illinois Jacquet , Wynton Marsalis , Christian McBride , Walter Blanding , Marcus Printup , Leroy Jenkins , David Hazeltine , Jim Rotondi , Carla Cook , Paula West , Hank Jones , Wycliffe Gordon , Joe Magnarelli , Roy Haynes , Aaron Diehl, and Roberta Gambarini ; he was also a member of the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra . Currently (2019) he is a member of the Brandon Sanders Quintet and the Jeremy Pelt Quartet. In the field of jazz he was involved in 55 recording sessions between 2001 and 2018.
