Embeth Jean Davidtz (born August 11, 1965 in Lafayette , Indiana ) is an American film and stage actress .

life and career

Davidtz was born to white South African parents in Indiana , where her father studied at Purdue University . She moved to South Africa with her parents when she was nine , grew up there and studied at Rhodes University in Grahamstown . Her theatrical debut as Juliet in Romeo and Juliet received good reviews. After returning to the United States, she settled in Los Angeles and began appearing in NBC small films. Her best-known role - at the same time her breakthrough - was that of the Jewish Helene Hirsch in Steven Spielberg's Holocaust drama Schindler's List in 1993 . Davidtz has been married since June 22, 2002 and has two children with her husband Jason Sloane.
