Dave "Davy" Bulthuis (born June 28, 1990 in Purmerend ) is a Dutch football player who plays on the position of defender . He is under contract with Ulsan Hyundai in South Korea.

Career

In his youth, Bulthuis played for VPV Purmersteijn and FC Volendam. In summer 2009 he moved to FC Utrecht . There he was raised to the professional squad in July 2011. He played a total of 80 league games for FC Utrecht in the Eredivisie . The left-back scored nine goals.

In the summer of 2014, Bulthuis moved to the 2nd Bundesliga for 1. FC Nürnberg . He signed a three-year contract with the club . Due to his combative nature, he quickly became a crowd favorite in Nuremberg. In his first season, Bulthuis clashed with the then coach Valérien Ismaël after a 3-2 win against 1. FC Kaiserslautern . This led to the coach removing the defender from the squad and relegating him to the second team that plays in the Regionalliga Bayern . Despite these teething problems, Bulthuis was pardoned after an apology. Under René Weiler , Ismaël's successor, who was on leave from the club shortly after the conflict due to the meager points yield, Bulthuis developed into an important pillar in the team. He led the club to almost promotion to the Bundesliga in the 2015/16 season . Also because he was only used in the central defender position that was better for him under the new coach. At the end of the 2016/17 season , Bulthuis and the club could not agree on a new contract. Thus, the crowd favorite, who had sought an extension, left the club.

At the beginning of July 2017, the first division club FK Qəbələ from Azerbaijan announced that Bulthuis would strengthen the team. He made his debut in the Premyer Ligasi on August 12 in a 2-1 away win against FK Keshia. After six months and only four league games, he moved back to his home country in January 2018 and joined SC Heerenveen . A year later he moved to Ulsan Hyundai .
