Dawydiw ( Ukrainian Давидів ; Russian Давыдов Dawydow , Polish Dawidów ) is a village in the western Ukrainian Lviv Oblast with about 5200 inhabitants.
With the village Tscherepyn ( Черепин ) it belonged until 2016 to the same district municipality , on 18 December 2016, the village became the center of the newly established rural community Dawydiw ( Давидівська сільська громада Dawydiwska silska hromada ), this still count the 12 villages Berezhany (Бережани) , Dmytrowytschi (Дмитровичі) Hontschary (Гончари) Horischnij (Горішній) Krotoschyn , Passiky-Subryzki (Пасіки-Зубрицькі) Sosnivka (Соснівка) Tscherepyn, Tschyschky , Wolyzja (Волиця) and Wynnytschky (Виннички).
history
The place was mentioned in documents in 1386 as de Dauidow , and later as Давыdoвo (1407), de Dauidow (1410), de Dawidowo (1433), in Dawidow (1433), de Dawidow (1464), de Dauidow (1505). The name is derived from the first name of the original owner Dawid .
The village initially belonged to the aristocratic republic of Poland-Lithuania , the Ruthenian Voivodeship , Lviv region and until the end of the 15th century it belonged to the Dawidowski family . It was ethnically Polish as early as the Middle Ages, i.e. H. the names of the inhabitants in the historical sources of the time were predominantly Polish. In 1415, the Roman Catholic inhabitants (i.e. excluding the Ruthenians) of the village of Davidow received Magdeburg rights . The Roman Catholic parish was founded by Stanisław Dawidowski in 1439.
In 1515 and between 1618 and 1620 it was devastated by Tatars . Since the middle of the 17th century it belonged to the Lviv Dominicans.
During the first partition of Poland in 1772 the village became part of the new Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria of the Habsburg Empire (from 1804).
In 1900 the Dawidów community had 328 houses with 1885 inhabitants, of which 1817 were Polish-speaking, 64 Ruthenian-speaking, 4 German-speaking, 1755 Roman Catholic, 106 Greek Catholic, 15 Jews, 7 of other faiths.
After the end of the Polish-Ukrainian War in 1919, Dawydiw came to Poland. In 1921 the Dawidów community had 384 houses with 2213 inhabitants, 2137 Poles, 62 Ruthenians, 14 Jews (nationality), 2041 Roman Catholics, 145 Greek Catholics, 27 Jews (religion).
During the Second World War it belonged first to the Soviet Union and from 1941 to the General Government, from 1945 back to the Soviet Union, now part of the Ukraine . The Poles were resettled to Poland in 1946.
