Matthew Francis Dean Reynolds (born July 21, 1992 in Cardiff ) is a Welsh darts player who competes in the tournaments of the BDO and uses the nickname "Deano".

Career

Beginnings at the PDC

Reynolds started playing darts at the age of 13. The Welshman started his professional career in 2011 with the PDC , where he played on the PDC Development Tour, but never got past the round of 32. In 2014 Reynolds secured participation in the UK Open with a good result at the PDC UK Open Amateur Qualifiers . Reynolds failed in the first round against the Englishman Martin Stead, but his participation in his first major event of the PDC was the Welshman's greatest career success up to that point. In May of the same year Reynolds reached the quarterfinals of the PDC World Youth Championship , where he was defeated by the Austrian Rowby-John Rodriguez with 2: 6 legs. Four months later, Reynolds won a tournament on the Development Tour for the first time after beating the German Max Hopp 4-2 in the final. At the beginning of 2015, however, he was unable to secure a Tour Card for the PDC Pro Tour through the PDC Qualifying School , although Reynolds showed a great improvement on the Development Tour and made it into the last few laps several times and a second in the junior competition in July 2015 Times could win. The PDC World Youth Championship 2015 ended Reynolds after a semi-final defeat by Max Hopp on a shared third place.

Commuting between BDO and PDC

Since 2015 Reynolds has also appeared in tournaments organized by the rival association BDO . For example, he took part in the England National Championships , various Opens and for the first time the World Masters , which brought him to 18th place in the BDO Invitation Table . With this placement, Reynolds was eligible to participate in the BDO World Darts Championship 2016 , which ended for him in the first round after an opening defeat against world number one Glen Durrant . After the World Cup, Reynolds continued to play for both associations, so that, in addition to tournaments on the PDCDevelopment Tour, he again took part in the England Masters of the BDO. At this tournament he achieved a nine dart finish for the first time in his career . With six tournament victories on the PDC Development Tour, Reynolds secured a Tour Card for the PDC Pro Tour for the years 2017 and 2018 for the first time . With the entry into the second round of the World Masters and the semi-final entry at the BDO World Trophy , where he among other things defeated the darts legend Martin Adams , he achieved further successes in the course of 2016. Reynolds played his way up to 7th place on the BDO Invitation Table and was therefore one of the 16 seeded players at the BDO World Darts Championship 2017 for the first time. Here he surprisingly had to admit defeat to Pip Blackwell in round 1 .

Career at BDO

After Reynolds took part in a few tournaments on the PDC Development Tour, the Welshman decided at the beginning of 2017 to refuse the Tour Card he had received and instead concentrate on his career at the BDO. When the World Darts Trophy was held at that time , Reynolds failed 4: 6 in the round of 16 against Martin Adams. Reaching the final of the Welsh Open, in which he narrowly defeated Scott Baker 5-6, was Reynolds' best result in the 2017 darts season. The BDO World Darts Championship 2018 began for Reynolds with his first win at a Darts World Cup in the 1st round against Chris Harris , but found an early end one round later with a 2: 4 defeat against ex-world champion Scott Waites . Against the German Michael Unterbuchner , Reynolds was eliminated in round 1 with a clear 1: 6 defeat at the BDO World Trophy . The Darts World Cup 2019 ended for Reynolds again after the round of 16, in which he was defeated by his compatriot Jim Williams with 0: 4 sets. After the World Cup had ended, the Welshman decided to take part in the qualifying school of his old association, the PDC , in order to earn a Tour Card for the PDC Pro Tour 2019 .
