Dear Mr. President

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dear Mr. President is a song by the American singer Pink (Alecia Moore), which was released on her 2006 album I'm Not Dead . The piece is an open letter to George W. Bush .

Emergence

Pink wrote the song in collaboration with Billy Mann and sang it with the Indigo Girls . A release as a single was not originally planned in order not to raise suspicions of commercialization. Finally it was published after all; in German-speaking countries it was published on April 27, 2007 by Sony BMG .

interpretation

The song consists of a series of rhetorical questions in an accusatory tone, such as, " How do you feel when you see all the homeless people on the street?" With this, Pink alludes to, possibly but not all, the growing number of homeless people in the United States also on the homeless after Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Bush was criticized at the time for the slow-moving aid for the homeless. The passage "How do you dream when a mother has no chance to say goodbye?" Is most likely referring to the Iraq war and the thousands of fallen US soldiers. With the passage "No child is left behind" (in German about "No child is left behind" ) she alludes to the No Child Left Behind Act , a controversial law from 2001. The question “Which father would take away his own daughter's rights?” Criticizes Bush's attitude as an anti- abortionist . Another theme of the song is homosexuality - "What father would hate his daughter if she were gay?" Bush is an opponent of homosexual partnerships. This was particularly controversial when the daughter of his Vice President Dick Cheney professed her lesbian love. With "You have come a long way since whiskey and cocaine" Pink alludes to the youth of Bush. He is said to have strongly attributed alcohol. It is also believed that Bush was about to be arrested in 1972 and that cocaine was found on him.
