Get the Party Started ( dt. The celebration rolls into action) is a pop song of American singer / songwriter Linda Perry . The song was released in late 2001 by the singer P! Nk on her second album Missundaztood on Arista Records and in early 2002 it was the first of four singles released from the album.

Origin and production

Perry composed the song as the result of her self-taught occupation with programming a drum computer . The rhythm track was supplemented by a simple bass line and "a few bizarre instruments". Perry used numerous "all possible and impossible cliché phrases" for the text. Pink, a fan of Perry's band 4 Non Blondes , contacted Perry in spring 2001 to collaborate on her new album, which Perry initially declined. However, Perry introduced the song to Pink because she believed in the potential of a hit. The song was recorded at Perry's home studio in Sherman Oaks . Dave Pensado mixed the recording at the Enterprise Studio in Burbank .

Music video

Dave Meyers realized the music video for Get the Party Started as a fourth work for Pink. Meyers had already directed the music videos for the three singles extracted from the debut album, thereby giving Pink an image. The video, enriched with numerous wide-angle shots inspired by Hype Williams , traces Pink and her companion from home to a celebration before the celebration itself concludes the act. The two use a car, borrowed skateboards and a window cleaner's elevator on their way. One scene of the video contains the American national flag, which was mandatory shortly after the terrorist attacks in September 2001.

The music video was recognized at the MTV Video Music Awards 2002 in the categories Best Female Video and Best Dance Video.

reception

Stephen Thomas Erlewine from the music database Allmusic calls the song in his review of the album Missundaztood a " glitzy dancefloor anthem ". Cynthia Fuchs from popmatters.com describes the title as "damn contagious" ( damn infectious ).

Commercial win

Get the Party Started , Pink's first single, also reached high placements in the German-language charts and marked the international breakthrough for the aspiring artist.

Cover version

British singer Dame Shirley Bassey first covered the title in 2006 for a pre-Christmas advertising campaign for British retail company Marks & Spencer in the style of a James Bond theme, and in 2007 titled an album that included the song with this name. In 2008 the song was published again by Crew 7 as an electronic dance cover and made it into the Top 100 DDP annual charts.
