Life
Dave Meyers grew up in Berkeley , California . His interest in film arose when he was working part-time in a cinema in Berkley. He then attended Loyola Marymount University , where he earned a degree in film production and philosophy.
After meeting Gus Van Sant while filming To Die For 1995 , he began making music videos in 1997, similar to Van Sant. In the meantime, more than 200 music videos have been made under his direction. His clients include musicians of all genres, including P! Nk , Janet Jackson , Jennifer Lopez , Aerosmith , The Offspring , Lil Jon and Master P .
His first big success was Work It by Missy Elliott which won the 2003 MTV Video Music Award for best video of the year. He repeated this success in 2011 with Katy Perry's Firework , in 2017 with Kendrick Lamars Humble and most recently in 2018 with Camila Cabellos Havana . He also received a Grammy Award for Missy Elliot's Lost Control and Lamar's Humble .
In 1999 he made his first feature film, Foolish, with Eddie Griffin and Master P in the lead roles, as stand-up comedians who want to break through. In 2007, The Hitcher was a remake of the slasher classic Hitcher, the 1986 Highway Killer .
From 2004 he also started making commercials for Adidas , Citibank , Starbucks and PETA , among others . His 2004 commercial for the Apple iPod earned him a Cannes Lion and a Clio Award . He won other advertising awards for Lowe's and the Getty Foundation . Ice Cube played a major role in the latter . He is a member of the Radical Media collective , which sees itself as an association of artists who pursue a different advertising approach.
Dave Meyers supports PETA , including shooting Raise Your Glass for Pink in 2010 , which campaigned for animal rights, and a video with Alicia Silverstone as part of a PETA advertising campaign.
