Can't Take Me Home is the debut album by the American singer and songwriter P! Nk . It was released on April 4, 2000 in the US and September 14 in the UK . Two million copies of the album were sold in the US and four million worldwide.

background

Three songs ( There You Go , Most Girls and You Make Me Sick ) were released as singles and achieved great success in the charts, especially in the English-speaking countries (USA, Canada, Great Britain, Australia), while the rest of the world received relatively little notice took from Pink. The album itself reached number 26 on the American Billboard 200. In the summer of that year, Pink appeared as a supporting act on the "No-Strings-Attached" tour of the boy group * NSYNC , which further increased its popularity - at least in the USA. Producers who worked on the album included Kevin "She'kspere" Briggs, Babyface , Kandi Burruss, Terence "Tramp Baby" Abney, Daryl Simmons and Christopher Stewart. Pink co-wrote seven songs on the album. In contrast to Pink's later work, her debut album contains contemporary R&B influences in the songs. Later on, Pink took on more of a pop-rock- oriented style. She stated that she did not like the promotion of the album as she was unable to express her musical influences.

You Make Me Sick was featured on the 2001 soundtrack for Save the Last Dance . Split Personality , which was not released as a single, was featured in The Princess Diaries (2001), but did not appear on the film's soundtrack.

reception

Allmusic's Stephen Thomas Erlewine compared Can't Take Me Home to TLC's 1999 album Fanmail , which it is very similar to. The songs are very much influenced by the producers of both records, LA Reid and Babyface. They used a driving rhythm as the basis of this intelligent dance-pop production, which resulted in a sound similar to that of TLC's work.

It may be hard to listen to Pink's debut album Can't Take Me Home without hearing TLC, specifically their 1999 album Fanmail. After all, LA Reid and Babyface were the executive producers for both albums, and they decided to use a skittering, post-jungle rhythm for the bedrock of these savvy, club-ready dance-pop productions - a sound exploited expertly on TLC's record .

If Can't Take Me Home pales next to Fanmail , then it's not Pink's fault, but rather a comparison with a modern classic. On its own, Pink's debut was very strong and well done, if it wasn't perfect anyway. Babyface determined the whole album with his production:

If Can't Take Me Home pales next to Fanmail, it's not Pink's fault, nor is it because the album is sub-par; it's simply because it follows in the footsteps of a record that's as close to a modern classic as contemporary soul gets. Judged as its own entity, Pink's debut is quite strong, even if it isn't perfect. The production is masterminded by Babyface ...
