Death Alley was a Dutch punk and rock band from Amsterdam that was founded in 2013 and split up in 2019.

history

The band was formed in 2013. The following year the group was represented at the Roadburn Festival , among others . In May 2015 the debut album Black Magick Boogieland was released by Tee Pee Records , which was followed by appearances in Europe . In 2016 the band took part in Hellfest and in April 2016 they played again at the Roadburn Festival, which resulted in the live album Live at Roadburn , which was released in 2017 on Tee Pee Records and Suburban Records . In 2017 it went on a European tour with Mantar and Kadavar . In the same year, Death Valley also replaced the band Asteroid at the Freak Valley Festival . In 2018 the group took part in the FortaRock Festival and the Metaldays . After the next studio album was released in the same year under the name Superbia at Century Media , the group broke up after their last appearance on January 3, 2019.

style

Wolfgang Liu Kuhn from Rock Hard wrote in his review of Black Magick Boogieland that the album title is reminiscent of The Devil's Blood , but musically one goes more in the direction of space age playboys from Warrior Soul . Overall, the album offers a mixture of punk and thrash metal , only towards the end do you approach psychedelic rock and, very slightly, The Devil's Blood. In a later issue, he reviewed Superbia and found the album had "better songwriting", "more consistent atmosphere" and "more thoughtful hits". The group is evolving more and more into a wicked version of Warrior Soul. Overall, he referred to the music as death punk . In an interview with Mandy Malon in the same issue, Oeds Beydals stated that the band is musically influenced by their environment, which is why the album was written in different places like Urk , New York City , Amsterdam, Berlin , Corsica , Sardinia and The Hague . Frank Thießies from Metal Hammer also reviewed the album and found that the band "positioned itself even wider than the usual retro competition". Motörhead influences of the predecessor are now less represented. There is an occasional progressive mix of proto- metal and punk, psychedelic rock and dark rock . The songs are "presented in the right places pastoral-hymnically or with a pissed off attitude". Wolfram Hanke from Ox-Fanzine noted that the band sounds darker than Led Zeppelin on the album, summarizing the music as "psychedelic, punky proto-metal" with influences from Hawkwind , The Stooges , Poison Idea , Blue Öyster Cult , MC5 and Motörhead are audible.
