Deanery Stadtschwarzach

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Stadtschwarzach deanery is a former deanery of the Roman Catholic diocese of Würzburg . The ecclesiastical district existed between 1811 and 1905.

history

In its early days, the diocese of Würzburg consisted of a few parishes with a large number of branch villages . These original parishes lost their importance in the Middle Ages because more and more of the former branches became their own parishes. This made a more complicated organization of the diocese necessary. Ten parishes were merged to form deaneries. In the 12th century, so-called archdeaconates were also set up , who administered one or more deanery districts.

The original parish Stadtschwarzach and its branches were assigned to the archdeaconate of Iphofen for a long time . In 1584 the archdeaconates were dissolved and Julius Echter von Mespelbrunn divided the diocese into deacons. Although the name of the district changed more frequently in the following years, Stadtschwarzach always remained assigned to the administrative district in Iphofen in the Middle Ages and in the early modern period.

With the secularization initiated by Napoleon in 1803, the Würzburg Monastery was dissolved as spiritual territory and exclusively as a diocese of the Roman Catholic Church. In 1811, therefore, the administrative units of the diocese were redistributed. The Deanery Stadtschwarzach was created from parishes of the Archdiakonate Dettelbach and Iphofen. When the deaneries were adapted to the district offices, the Stadtschwarzach deanery was dissolved in 1905.
