The Bartholomäuskirche in Stadelschwarzach is the parish church of the Catholic community. It is located in the middle of the village on Würzburger Straße. Today the church is part of the Kitzingen deanery .

history

The town of Stadelschwarzach was first mentioned in 918 and is therefore one of the oldest towns in the area. A church in the village is mentioned as early as the middle of the 11th century. Initially, the parishioners were looked after by the parish of Stadtschwarzach . In 1306 the Counts of Castell sold the place to the Benedictine abbey of Münsterschwarzach. In the course of this new acquisition, Stadelschwarzach was upgraded. On September 11, 1364 the village became the seat of a pastor.

After the elevation to the parish a new church was built and completed in the 14th century. Until the secularization of Münsterschwarzach, the monks oversaw the parish. Until 1618, however, the pastor of Stadtschwarzach still held the right of patronage over Stadelschwarzach. In 1497 the new construction of the tower began, around 1600 the so-called Echter-Spitzhelm was put on it.

After the secularization, the choir and the nave were rebuilt. In March 1802 at the latest, master mason Anton Wüst from Grafenrheinfeld and Thaddäus Dückelmann from Wiesentheid presented the plans for the new building. The construction work was carried out by the Würzburg bricklayer Joseph Kees. The interior was designed by the carpenters Konrad Manger from Volkach and Georg Koch from Sommerach . Construction began in 1804 and the new building was completed in 1805. Only the old tower was preserved.

The church was renewed for the first time in 1936/1937. The first exterior renovation took place in 1958, while the interior was renewed in 1964. The church was last renovated in 1996. The Bavarian State Office for the Preservation of Monuments classifies the church as a monument, the underground remains of previous buildings are listed as a ground monument . On September 23, 2018, the steeple of the church tower was torn down by the storm Fabienne.

architecture

The church presents itself as a hall building . The church is oriented to the southwest, a retracted square choir completes the building. The 15th century tower was added to the west of the building and the sacristy was built at the back . The east facade was built in the classicism style. Two sandstone figures of Peter and Paul are attached in cartouches here. You probably came to this place through a foundation of Bishop Julius Echter von Mespelbrunn . The house of God is divided into three window axes.

Furnishing

The crucifixion group by Johann Peter Wagner

Instead of a high altar, a large picture was placed in the choir after the renovations in 1964. It comes from Willi Götz from Rimbach and shows the symbols of the Christian doctrine of salvation in bright colors. A painting by the Würzburg painter Andreas Leimgrub with the patron Bartholomäus (1877) hangs on the southern wall of the choir . The stuccoed choir ceiling is decorated with a dove in a halo.

Two side altars are attached to the left and right of the choir arch. The northern altar of Mary has a figure of Maria Immaculata from the 18th century instead of an altar leaf. The Bartholomew altar on the south side is dominated by the figure of the saint. The nave is traversed by several figures of saints from the 18th and 19th centuries. The baptismal font was placed inside the church in 1805.

The crucifixion group by Johann Peter Wagner on the south side of the nave came into the church in the 18th century. There are also two processional poles in the nave. A stucco ceiling also runs through the nave: the IHS monogram is framed by several putti figures.

The organ case was taken over from the previous building. The organ by Franz Ignaz Seuffert was created in 1769.

Pastor

A draft for the new church from 1804

After Stadelschwarzach had become a parish, the parish was headed by a pastor. It was only after 1587 that the terms of office of the clergy were fully recorded. During the Thirty Years' War, the priests from the Münsterschwarzach monastery took over pastoral care. This emergency solution prevailed and existed until 1803.
