The church in Järkendorf

The Antonius von Padua Church in Järkendorf in Lower Franconia is the Catholic branch church of the Prichsenstadt district. It is located in the middle of the village on the district road KT 39. The church is now part of the Kitzingen deanery .

history

The history of the church is closely linked to that of the place. Järkendorf was first mentioned in a document in 1290. During the Middle Ages, various lords ruled the village. At the beginning of the 16th century these were the Fuchs von Bimbach . They established the Lutheran denomination in the village from 1579. At this point in time there was probably already a small church building, because Järkendorf became a branch of the nearby Eichfeld .

In the course of the Counter Reformation, the village was re-Catholicized in 1629 by Bishop Philipp Adolf von Ehrenberg , the Lutherans were expelled. In 1683 a chapel was first mentioned , which was consecrated to St. Anthony. A few years later, in 1688/1689, Anna Maria von Dernbach rebuilt the little church in its current form. The Italian Baptista Martini was won as the executive architect.

No major changes were made to the building itself. Only renovations renewed the building in the following centuries. First of all, the roof and the roof turret of the church were renovated in 1968. The interior was renovated the following year. An exterior renovation took place in 1990. The Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation classified the church building as a historical monument . In addition, underground remains of previous buildings are listed as ground memorials.

architecture

The church presents itself as a late baroque hall building . It is geosted and has a roof turret in the west. The east choir is polygonal and ends with a hipped roof . The nave was, however, with a pointed gable roof. Two window axes divide the building outwards. These are arched windows, which, however, have rectangular frames. On the west side there is a coat of arms that shows the lamb of Voit von Rieneck, the donors of the church.

Furnishing

High altar

The high altar of the church is located in the center of the choir. Like the church, it was donated by the Lords of Dernbach . Around 1690 he came inside the church. In 1895 the high altar was subjected to a comprehensive restoration. Previously, in the second half of the 18th century, two new assistant figures were attached to the altar. The last time the altar was renewed was during the interior renovation in 1969.

The altar is a four-column structure with tangled columns. The altar has two side passages over which the baroque assistance figures of St. Valentine (left) and St. Kilian (right) were placed. The altar sheet can be seen in the center. It shows Saint Anthony with the child. He is framed as assistant figures by Saint Joseph and a figure of Anna the third of herself . In the extract, the eye of providence can be found in the halo.

Bells

The bell of the church consists of a total of three bells , which were hung in the bell cage in the small roof turret. The oldest of the bells came into the church in 1926. Two bells had to be handed in to be melted down during the Second World War, and it wasn't until 1949 that the ringing could be completed again.
